From Vine to Wine: A Year in the Life of Tenuta il Finale's Winemaking

At Tenuta il Finale our winemaker's calendar follows the annual vineyard and cellar cycles, influenced by Piemonte's climate and traditional practices. Here is an overview:



Winter | December – February


Pruning

Vines are pruned to control growth and improve grape quality.


Vineyard maintenance

Trellis repairs, soil preparation, and organic matter management.


Cellar work

Wine aging in barrels, bottling of previous vintages such as Barbera and Arneis.




Spring | March - May


Bud Break

First green shoots appear.


Soil Management

Cover crops are mowed, and soil is worked for aeration.


Pest & Disease Control

Organic or conventional treatments begin.


Topping up barrels

Monitoring wine aging process.




Summer | June - August


Canopy Management

Thinning leaves to optimise sun exposure and air circulation.


Veraison (July-August)

Grapes change color and begin ripening.


Final Preparations for Harvest

Checking sugar levels and acidity in grapes.


Festival Season.




Autumn | September - November


Harvest

Hand-picking of the grapes.


Crushing & Fermentation

Grapes are processed, and fermentation begins.


Barrel Aging

New vintage enters aging in oak barrels or steel tanks.


Truffle Season
