So many culinary dishes to enjoy with a glass of Barbera
David shares his favourite pairings for this versatile wine
Barbera - deeply rooted in the hills of Piemonte - is one of Italy’s most food-friendly wines. With its vibrant acidity, soft tannins, and juicy red fruit notes, it complements a wide array of dishes, both traditional and international.
David shares a few of his favourite pairings to enjoy with a glass (or two) of Barbera:
Tajarin al Ragù – The classic thin, egg-rich pasta from Piemonte, served with a slow-cooked meat ragù. Barbera’s acidity cuts beautifully through the richness.
Porcini Risotto – Earthy mushrooms meet bright, red-berry notes for a perfect forest-to-vine pairing.
Grilled Sausages or Pork – The wine’s juicy profile complements the savory, slightly fatty cuts.
Aged Cheeses – Like Castelmagno or Pecorino; Barbera's acidity and fruit balance the saltiness.
Pizza or Tomato-Based Dishes – Especially with roasted vegetables, sausage, or mozzarella.
International Flavours – Think BBQ ribs, soy-glazed duck, or lentil curry—Barbera handles bold, spicy, and umami-rich dishes with ease.
Whether it’s a long lunch in the vineyard or a casual dinner at home, Barbera brings a splash of Italian soul to any table.
